Winter Language and Culture Exchange Program in Manchester, UK 2023

English is currently the most widely spoken language, with the world’s population of about 1.45 billion people using it to communicate. Learning English is therefore important in this era of globalization.

This project is an intensive English language learning program with native speakers at the New College Group Institute in Manchester, England. It focuses on developing one’s potential to become a leader, experiencing the world, learning how to live abroad, learning about different education systems, developing one’s personality, and inspiring courage, challenges, finding oneself, and experiencing Manchester, a city with beautiful old architecture, as well as many art galleries. Most importantly, it is a city with famous football clubs such as Manchester United and Manchester City.

In addition to traveling to experience new things, visiting nature and different architecture, participating in this project also broadens one’s horizons, creating interactions, making new friends to build networks for the future, and most importantly, seeing the world in a broader way and having a greater vision.

It is an international organization that has collaborated with various institutions in ASEAN and Europe, with the main objective of developing the potential of Thai youth to become outstanding leaders on the international stage through learning various foreign languages ​​to understand global knowledge and prepare for international networks. It also supports Thai and international youth in developing their thoughts and beliefs about themselves and the world around them, as well as leadership skills to practice expressing themselves, knowledge skills through analytical processes, and self-reliance. International Kingdom also supports youth to participate in cultural exchange projects abroad to exchange knowledge, experiences, society, language, and culture, which will lead to an understanding of diverse cultures and differences in society that can be further developed in the future and prepare them to step into the door of opening a wider worldview, leading to the creation of communities, societies, and nations for further development and progress.

2. New College Group

New College Group, or NCG for short, is an English language school specialising in a range of courses. NCG is based in two major cities in the UK, Manchester and Liverpool. It is trusted by a diverse range of students and offers high quality courses.

NCG is accredited by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI). According to the 2016 ISI report, NCG has developed a high standard of education, has an international student body of over 60 nationalities and is accredited by the British Council and an English UK member. The aim of New College Group is to make students feel like they are part of a big family.

Manchester is the second largest city in the UK and is a top destination for international students from around the world. It is also one of the largest student cities in Europe. NCG Manchester welcomes students from all over the world and is home to two of the world’s most famous football clubs, Manchester United and Manchester City. Manchester is also a global destination for international sporting events.

Applicant Qualifications

  1. Age 16 and above
  2. Thai nationality
  3. Basic English
  4. Healthy
  5. Positive attitude, ready to develop oneself and learn about different cultures
  6. Responsible, flexible, adaptable and ready to learn new things
  7. No criminal record

Number of project participants

Accepting up to 40 people (Selection will receive an invitation letter for taking leave or requesting a vacation to join the project)

What you will learn from participating in the project

  1. Learn English intensively from native and experienced teachers.
  2. Join activities with international youth and go on field trips to various locations in England, such as Snowdonia National Park and York.
  3. Learn about British culture and traditions through living with a host family.
  4. Promote self-development, adjust attitudes, thoughts, and beliefs about yourself and the world around you, as well as leadership skills.
  5. Have the opportunity to build a good international network and learn about different cultures to expand your knowledge for future careers.

Accommodation during the project participation

-Participants will stay in a Home Stay program with carefully selected host families in a safe neighborhood (1-2 participants per British family).

Main activities during the exchange in England

  1. Every morning from 9.00-12.00, participants will learn English with native speakers, focusing on all 4 skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing, at New College Group.
  2. Every afternoon from 13.30, participants will have the opportunity to explore the city independently, with a variety of activities to choose from, such as visiting the IWM North Museums, Manchester Art Gallery, Science and Industry Museum, playing sports such as football, ice skating, bowling, rowing, watching plays and concerts, etc.
  3. As the exchange period coincides with Christmas, one of the biggest and most important festivals of the year, participants will experience the festive atmosphere and visit the city’s largest Christmas market, the Christmas Market.
  4. Full Day Trip to Snowdonia national park, the most famous national park in Wales, home to historical monuments amidst some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.
  5. Full Day Trip to York, a city with beautiful buildings, notable for its Gothic architecture and settlements dating back to Roman times. The constructions are over 900 years old.
  6. Have the opportunity to visit the football stadiums of world-class football clubs such as Manchester United (Old Trafford Stadium) and Manchester City (Etihad Stadium).
  7. Have the opportunity to watch world-class football matches from the English league (Barclay Premier League).

Project participation period

The successful applicant will need to apply for a UK Entry Permit and complete 3 sessions:

Period 1: September 2023 Prepare documents for UK Entry Permit and travel

Period 2: October – November 2023 Study English to prepare for travel

Period 3: 26 November – 10 December 2023 Attend an event at New College Group in Manchester, UK

Cost of participation in the project

  1. Confirmation of participation in the project is 35,000 baht.
  2. Participation fee in the project in England is 124,000 baht.

The above expenses (for selected applicants) cover:

  1. Round-trip flight tickets from Bangkok to Manchester
  2. Orientation, preparation before departure
  3. Group Leader from International Kingdom throughout the program
  4. English language course at New College Group Institute, UK
  5. Host Family accommodation
  6. Bus pass (for travel back and forth between accommodation and school)
  7. Breakfast and dinner with host family
  8. Student ID card
  9. Travel insurance
  10. Invitation letter from New College Group Language Institute to submit for application for permission to enter the UK
  11. Full Day Trip fee for both days

Application process and announcement of results

  1. Complete the form
  2. Attach your personal history in the application form (Resume, CV)
  3. Write an essay on the specified topic and attach it completely to the application form.

The rules for writing an essay are as follows:

  • Write in English or Thai and attach it to the application form.
  • Use Microsoft Word to write.
  • More than 300 words but not more than 600 words.
  • For English, use Times New Roman font size 14.
  • For Thai, use TH SarabunPSK font size 16.
  • Save as a .pdf file to attach to the application form only.
